General English/Academic Year
Introduction
Grafton College is committed to a General English teaching programme that focuses on the learner. Our approach is student-centred and communicative, which means that teachers will focus on individual aims and interests to help learners use English in an effective and practical way. This course focuses on integrating the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing with emphasis placed on communication skills, improvement in fluency and confidence in speaking English.
Teachers make use of course books, but also supplement lessons with authentic material and out-of-class activities. You should allow at least two hours of self-study per day.
General English classes are available at all levels from Beginner to Advanced. We make sure you go to the right group according to your current knowledge by asking you to take a placement test when you arrive at the College. The school year is divided into four 12-week terms, at the end of which you will revise course work, sit a progress test and be advised on what to do next. Detailed information regarding your progress, including strengths and weaknesses, will be included in your end of term report and your teacher will make recommendations, ensuring you make the most of your time with us.
