The General English programme at Grafton prioritises speaking fluency and accuracy. There is an integrated approach to teaching the skills of speaking, writing, reading and listening. There is a regular, daily focus on language structures and vocabulary in conjunction with the pronunciation of these words and phrases. This course involves 15 hours classwork per week in which, at times, we focus on revision, new structures and vocabulary, the students’ own English and what we call ‘real life English’ or the English you need to study/work and live in an English speaking country. In addition the course prepares learners for an externally recognised exam at the end of their studies.
In the classes learners are asked to work in pairs, small groups, as a whole class and individually with the teacher providing feedback at each stage. By participating fully students make real progress which is built on by the teachers and academic team to help them reach their learning objectives. The academic team follow the learners’ progress from start to finish (placement to exit test) providing regular opportunities for feedback and tutorials.
At the end of the course learners will have achieved an internal certificate of attendance, an external certificate of achievement and can request a report on their course if they need it for their future work or study.
